It is becoming too familiar a story, parents disagree with a doctor or a teacher in how their children should be raised or treated and before you know it, the children are removed from the home and placed with foster parents when there was no true abuse just government workers flexing their muscle to prove that parents do not have any rights over their kids except what the state gives.
That is what happened recently to a Norwegian family when a school principal thought two sisters were being raised with too much Christianity, stating that the parents needed “help and guidance” in raising their children because they believed that God punishes sin and of course that creates disability in kids.
According to World Magazine, Marius and Ruth Bodnariu sent the daughters off to school as usual but soon learned that the state had kidnapped their children when police showed up to abduct two of their three sons leaving the three month old son with Ruth.
When the couple tried to find out the charges and Ruth became understandably emotional authorities came for the 3 month old too. X-rays and CT scans of the children revealed no signs of abuse yet after several months the family has yet to be reunited.
The parents were accused of Christian indoctrination and radicalism and it was for this reason that the principal could initiate the process that removed the children from a God fearing home without a warrant or a trial.
It is easy to blow this off as happening in Norway but the truth is that children are removed from homes in the US for much less. We have seen several cases where a doctor or hospital could override a parent’s decision on their child’s treatment by calling youth and families, when we know that doctors are often wrong and should be challenged with other opinion by doctors on major treatment.
Who do your children belong to the state or you the parents that the Lord entrusted with their care? I know that there are many bad parents out there but who is given primary authority? Parents should be proven unfit and only loose rights when a judge or jury determines them to be unfit.
We have allowed too much authority to be given to our nation’s youth and family services and to bureaucrats because of a few bad parents. When constitutional due process is ignored the state is given too much power over how our kids are raised and that is never good. The Lord gave authority to a mother and father to train up a child in the way he should go and the state should only be given limited power for extreme situations, because the state will not abide parents raising their children to be God fearing believers in Jesus Christ.
