It is important from time to time to remember what it means to be a God-fearing Christian American. That just when we believe we have lost our freedom because America is rejecting the Lord, that this is still the land of the free and the home of the brave even when we are told that freedom is no longer allowed.
It warmed my heart over the weekend to read a story by Todd Starnes, who told of a half-time show that would not happen because the marching band had intended to play “How Great Thou Art” clearly not a song on the state’s approved list.
The Rankin County Mississippi school district had been sued by a student years ago for a violation of that student’s first amendment rights. Again the tyranny of the minority. Then a pastor prayed at an event, something very immoral apparently, and an Obama appointed judge fined the school district and warned that any more such bad behavior would incur a fine of $10,000.
So the band did not play on.
But here is where my heart flies once more. During that half time at Brandon High School after the announcement was made that the marching band would not march, a solitary voice was heard, it sounded like humming in the stadium as other voices joined in to sing that illicit hymn.
Soon, the sweet praise of “How Great Thou Art” rose until the entire stadium sang with one voice those beautiful words to God.
There is the hope for the brave believer in Jesus Christ, no matter how much the enemy wants us to be silent, we will not. Even if we are the last group of Christians on planet earth, like those at the Alamo, we will praise the Lord.
