The Prayers of the Righteous

If you want your life to change for the better there is one activity you must do throughout the day, everyday and that is pray.

I work at a dental office during the week to pay the bills and there is one thing that makes me snicker to myself almost daily, it is when people admit that they do not floss their teeth everyday and usually they do it just a day or two before seeing the hygienist.

I have found it to be the same with prayer. We know that praying is good for us and that we should do it more often and not just when we have trouble but just like flossing we wait until there is a deadline to do it.

It does not have to be that way at all, and I am talking about prayer not flossing, we can develop a habit of prayer that works with our day instead of clearing out the closet and moving a chair inside.

I have no problem with a prayer closet but it might be something to work up to once we have learned to walk.

Everyone has different morning habits and maybe you need your morning coffee before you can even grunt at your spouse and kids in a meaningful way but start your talk with the Lord when you open your eyes but before your feet hit the floor in the morning. Just start with a good morning Lord and thank you for this day.

I think you find this starts a conversation with Him that will last the day.

Make it a point to thank the Lord for your food but also for your drink, I know I am so very grateful for that first cup of water and the coffee that follows. I ask for His blessing over the morning exercise and rejoice that no one had to call 911 before I finished.

I have learned to ask Him to help me do the work I need to do and give Him glory when I succeed. I ask Him for divine appointments so that I can be a blessing to others give Him thanks when I finish the day.

We can be made to feel guilty because we don’t spend a half hour to an hour in prayer like we hear of some people doing but understand that some are given not only the gift and ministry of prayer but the time to spend doing it too.

What I have had to do and what I recommend that you do is to make certain times and events mandatory for prayer, such as eating times and other times that make sense for you.

When the temple stood in Jerusalem there where three times each day that sacrifices where made and it was a call to prayer. This was carried over into times when the temple had been destroyed. That is why we find Daniel praying three times each day but we are told to pray without ceasing.

This is an open conversation with God sort of like having Him on speaker all day long, it changes how we view our conversations and attitudes because not only are we talking to Him but also if we listen we will find that He is talking to us.

Make the choice to pray each day with praise and thanksgiving and I know it will change your life forever.
