We take our liberty for granted in the United States even as it being taken from us. We see US congressmen and women sitting illegally out of order in the House of Representatives demanding that American citizens lose the right to keep and bear arms and the rights to a warrant and to face their accusers before being placed on a secret list to restrict their travel.
You would think that the liberty so many Americans paid the ultimate price to gain and to keep would be difficult to take away especially in the United States military, but you would be wrong.
It was difficult for me to watch airmen in the United States Air Force, a military branch I once served in to protect my country in the first Gulf war, assault and drag out a retired senior master sergeant from mentioning the name of God in flag ceremony for a retiring master sergeant.
Sgt. Oscar Rodriguez is a 33 year veteran of the United States Air Force who served with honor and distinction. He has become well known for his rousing flag folding recitations that focus on God and country that will bring any red blooded American to tears.
Those who have served in the military in years gone by are usually very patriotic and to some degree honor God and the flag. We are trained to stand at attention wherever we are on base when the flag is being lowered and taps are being played to show respect for that flag that represents the sacrifices that were made for our liberty and safety and for the Lord who in His great providential grace allowed us the mercy of freedom.
However, when the unit commander of retiring Master Sgt. Charles Roberson found out that Robertson had invited Sgt. Rodriguez to his flag folding retirement ceremony, the commander tried to bar Rodriguez from coming on base, but even an officer cannot bar a decorated retired Senior Master Sgt. Without cause.
But as soon as Sgt. Rodriguez began his recitation for the flag folding ceremony an airman stood up and approached to ask the retired vet if he was really going to do this and then another airman approached and the two physically accosted the Sgt. and removed him from the base. Why?
Because he intended to mention the name of God in his presentation, a cardinal sin under the command of President Obama and the officers he has commissioned.
The pentagon says that this should not have happened at a private retirement ceremony on a US Air Force base, that soldiers and airmen have rights under the first amendment to freedom of religion and speech.
But that is just a little smoke to make us think everything is alright when really we have lost our constitutional rights, we just don’t know it yet. The godless and the worshipers of false gods long ago took away the right to pray in school or to read the bible and no one fought it with any real energy. God has been driven from the public square when no one had the right to do that.
Our kids no longer pledge allegiance to the flag in schools because some godless pervert got his way and we just took it. Dare to wear or display the flag to school especially on Cinco de Mayo and tell me the reaction.
I thought military bases were still a safe place to be patriotic and that commanders and military personnel were just biding their time until a new president took office, but I am afraid that we have even lost the heart of our fighting force and that godlessness is strong there too.
It truly breaks my heart and brings tears to my eyes to know that we are losing this country and that there is not fight left in America to stop it. I love my country and the flag, but I love the Lord more and I look forward to the day, and I don’t think it is far off now, that Jesus will come and set up a better country, a kingdom where we can proclaim Jesus, the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
