More Americans to Die From Opioids Than Car Crashes

It is a sad commentary on American society that for the first time the National Safety Council is reporting that more Americans have died from an accidental drug overdose than from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

According to the report after the NSC examined the data from various state and federal agencies more Americans had died from opioid overdoses than “falls, pedestrian incidents, drowning, and fire.”

Classified as accidental “poisoning deaths,” the National Safety Council reported that there was an 11% increase in such deaths from 2016 to 2017.

We should note that in recent years, many states have made it legal to use marijuana and have loosened enforcement of the nations drug laws.

As drug use continues to become normalized, we should not be surprised by these reports as so many people are choosing this deadly option.
