Freedom of speech is probably one of the more divisive liberties we struggle with in America because on the one hand we all want to speak our mind and have our views heard but on the other hand the opinions of other people are offensive and they need to be quiet and sit down.
The big guns in social media including Facebook and Twitter have reached an agreement with the European Union to tighten the restrictions on speech in the wake of the Paris and Brussels attacks and how terrorists used social media to gain followers and communicate.
Of course, we want more safety and we want to stop the Jihad of Islamic terrorism against soft targets in the West as we fighting a Muslim invasion.
But I have a question, would the statement I just made on Islam get me banned on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn once these changes take place because the term “hate speech” is pretty broad.
There are many groups that have influence over these changes that are looking at speech on religion, ethnicity and sexual stuff and finding the boundaries for freedom of speech and hate speech is all about what is PC and who is in charge at the moment.
These boundaries are not being set by the United States and our constitution but by corporations that place their official headquarters overseas for tax reasons so really the American government has no say on these policies, like it or not.
Freedom of speech and freedom of religion are core American values that are quickly being lost and as I have often said this is due to losing the influence of the Holy Spirit, after all where He is there is liberty.
We need these freedoms or liberties in order to function and better yet to thrive. It is important that we have the freedom to speak out against sexual immorality and the murder of the unborn but believe it or not, it is also important to be able to speak in favor of these things too.
The godless progressives want Christians to stop talking about the immorality their policies bring, they want to take away the freedom to oppose sin and enslave us to their viewpoint.
The emperor does not want people saying he has no clothes even though he suspects they may be right. We see this in when it comes to global warming as some are calling for the arrest and prosecution of scientists with dissenting opinions.
The social media companies are privately held and can do as they please. We have seen stories of how there is a liberal bias among them and conservatives and Christians are given less than preferential treatment but here is the thing; they are privately held companies and it is their right to run their companies the way they like.
If this is not acceptable then Christians need to either buy them out or start their own social media sites. Freedom is only freedom when we apply it to everything and everyone. But we should take note of how quickly our freedoms are being taken away by not only our own government but the international community.
