You are held in high esteem by the Lord because He took the time to make you Himself. In fact, the bible states that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, that you were knitted together in your mother’s womb.
The argument over abortion in the United States of America boils down to one overriding principle, when are you a human being. Strictly from science based point of view, you are a human being from the moment of conception and while many pro-death advocates may argue that a zygote, embryo, or fetus is only a potential human like an acorn is only a potential tree, they are wrong because of one word; growth.
While an acorn remains dormant until it is brought to life by soil and water, a human is always a human regardless of the stage of life.
A human embryo has a beating heart 21 days after conception and measurable brain waves about 45 days after conception. By 42 days the skeleton is formed and the brain is controlling the movement of muscles and organs. All that happens before the unborn human being is even classified as a fetus. At varying times between the fifth and 12th week after conception, the preborn baby will be able to suck his thumb, smile, squint, kick, roll over, make a fist, curl his toes, and grasp an object placed in the palm.
It is certainly more than that though as the Lord has known us before we have known ourselves. God, the Father gave each of us the attributes we needed to fulfill His purposes and this includes the number of our days.
We do not know why the Lord gives some people a long life and others less time just as we do not know why we are tall or short, rich or poor but the bible tells us that God has gifted us to meet the needs of the body of Christ as well as to bless others.
The argument for or against life reaches into society and the whole human race not to mention the reason the United States of America was founded.
Consider, tyranny is defined as cruel and unfair treatment by people with power over others. Abortion is, quite literally, a textbook example of tyranny. One human being with power (the mother) is given all the rights, while the weaker human being (the preborn baby) is given none.
America was founded on the idea that tyrants will not prevail and that all created persons are given, by God, the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Your life has great value but so do the lives of others. While men may esteem one person over another for the sake of beauty, fame or wealth, God does not. People can choose to give up their lives for the sake of another but they do not have the right to take the life of someone weaker than themselves to improve their quality of life.
The bottom line on abortion is how do we assign value to any human life regardless of the stage. It turns out that people are incapable of giving that value because it is above our pay grade, we are not the Creator.
Only God can establish the value of a life and He has stated that we are all of equal value at the foot of the cross, male, female, black, Hispanic or however you try to classify a human being we are fearfully and wonderfully made and that means life is not to be taken just because it is a bad time.
