Democrats to Emliminate Swearing on the Bible

It may come as a complete surprise to no one (or maybe it does) that the newly elected Democrat members of the House of Representatives are proposing a change to rules for witnesses before various committees and sub-committees.

Take the draft proposed by the House Committee on Natural Resources now controlled by the Democrats. Due to be voted on later this week, the draft has some interesting changes:

“The Chair of the Committee, the Chair of the Subcommittees or any Member designated by the Chair may administer oaths to any witness before the Committee. All witnesses appearing in hearings may be administered the following oath by the Chair or his designee prior to receiving the testimony: “Do you solemnly swear or affirm, under penalty of law, that the testimony that you are about to give is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?”

For those of us who enjoy a good crime procedural show or book, maybe you notice the change, Where is God? Of course, I also notice that no men or women sit in the chair either but that is something else.

This committee will by no means be the last committee to alter the oath and I am certain that we will see the oath change across the country before long but has anyone considered the consequences of taking God out of the oath to tell the truth or why God was invoked in such an oath in the first place? I doubt it.

We live in an age where truth is no longer objective but subjective. Don’t just read over that. Consider what that means for just a moment. What is truth? You truth, my truth or any truth for that matter.

When someone gives testimony before a court or in congress, decisions are made on that testimony. We take for granted that the person giving that testimony is telling the whole and unvarnished truth and if they are not then what is the point of the testimony.

When the name of God is invoked, we are asking God to hold the person accountable for absolute and objective truth. This is the point of the oath. Penalty of law is minor by comparison.

We now live in an increasingly secular society and that society has little respect for truth and certainly little respect for a God they do not claim.

That is why we see the radical and terrible changes that we see in our country. The death of children by the hands of doctors and healthcare providers being promoted, Gun control, socialist tax structures, sexual immorality, war on Christians and the list goes on.

Is it a surprise that the Democrats want to remove God from an oath to tell the truth? No.
