There is a reason very few people watch Hollywood award shows today and the Golden Globe awards are certainly among the shows not being watched as actors promote their political agenda and bore us to death.
From time to time however, they exceed even our lowest expectations for poor taste. Christian Bale was able to gain a little shock attention on last Sunday’s Golden Globes when he thanked Satan for his inspiration in playing former Vice President Dick Cheney.
Bale certainly had endured a dramatic make up effort to appear like the former VP and from a few clips I saw, he was effective at acting like him as well. But, to thank Satan even for the sake of humor to a mostly godless crowd of Hollywood elites is treading on shaky ground at a minimum.
We should recognize that while we have free speech in the United States, not all speech is free. We will be held accountable for every idle word that we utter.
