I often hear people ask, “Where is God?” Really that is the wrong question. The question should be, “Are you hiding from God?”
The opening chapters of the book of Genesis tell the history of the first man and the first woman, Adam and Eve. It describes the ideal environment and relationship that they had with the Lord. Even describing a daily evening walk with God in the garden.
But something happened, Adam and Eve were given a straightforward command to eat all but the fruit of a single tree, to do so would bring death. The perfect couple was not able to obey this command and sin entered into the world.
When they realized their condition and heard the Lord coming for His daily walk, they hid themselves from God; they did not want their sin to find them out.
When trouble finds you and I because of the poor choices we have made called sin, we too hide ourselves from God, yet we claim that is God hiding Himself from us, that He has forgotten and forsaken us.
Really, we are avoiding God and the cost of our sin. We blame one another for what has taken place, we shake our fist at God because we cannot admit that we are wrong, so we are angry.
If only we would realize that the Lord wants us to come out of hiding and seek Him. If we seek Him with our whole heart, He will not hide from us. He came to seek and find that which is lost.
