When studying the Word of God we can conclude that to some degree sickness is rooted in our spiritual life. We know that the wages of sin is death and we find that when we partake of the Lord’s Supper in an unworthy manor by not judging ourselves we grow sick and even die.
Take the scriptures on leprosy. The sages of old concluded that leprosy was caused by evil speech because Miriam the sister of Moses was given the disease when she grumbled against her brother.
Bible teachers would use word play to drive the point home such as breaking the Hebrew word for leprosy into two parts to derive the phrase wellspring of evil and this is most likely where James got his of evil speech to a well of water that cannot bring both blessing and curse.
It is important for believers in Jesus understand that our health is connected to how we live our lives. I am not giving you a prosperity gospel but a spiritual principle found in scripture that clearly teaches sickness is a result of sin.
While it is true that we all will become sick and die eventually, we should also recognize that our quality of life is connected to our quality of life. The years we live are impacted by our choice to live for the Lord or live for ourselves and I am not only speaking of the number of years but also weather they are years of sickness or health.
I am a simple preacher, who believes in the power of prayer to heal, that the bible tells our churches to repent of sin and if you need healing to ask the elders of the church, be anointed with oil and the laying on of hands.
But, how many of us are sick and dying because we could not acknowledge our sin and confess them to the Lord? How many of us are being judged by Him because we will not judge ourselves?
