Beau Shroyer, a former police officer and pastor from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, working with his wife Jackie and five children as missionaries in Lubango, Angola for SIM USA, was “killed while serving Jesus” last Friday, months after his family raised concern at a local church about ongoing security issues they had on the mission. He was 44.
SIM USA President Randy Fairman said in a statement about the former pastor’s death, “On Friday October 25th at noon I received an urgent call that Beau Shroyer — serving Jesus in Angola — had been killed and is now with his Savior!”
Established more than 100 years ago, SIM USA is one of the oldest long-term mission organizations focused on difficult places and has a storied history in global missions.
The organization did not immediately have any further information to share on Shroyer’s killing when they were reached out by The Christian Post Tuesday, although it stated Saturday that Fairman was en route to Angola’s second largest city by population, Lubango.
Beau and Jackie Shroyer, along with their five children (the youngest not pictured), were among the first to join SIM USA as missionaries when COVID lockdowns began lifting. In a statement, Fairman said: “They exude such an aroma of Christ in our family — faithful, energetic and loving.
He added: “For us and for Jackie & the kids, this is our time to trust Jesus in a season of suffering. We have to trust in Him without demanding for an answer of why did He let that happen. It is hard, and a test of faith. But a lot of information is still not known to me, and I have yet to speak with Jackie.
As believers, we should honor the sacrifice the Shroyers have made for the gospel of Jesus as pray for them and support them as we can.
